Education and Training

The members of the Scripps Genome Center are committed to educating marine scientists about bioinformatics concepts, tools and applications. We frequently provide individualized, one-on-one training to researchers. We help them choose, learn to use and interpret data from the software packages best suited to their needs.

We are also committed to training the next generation of marine biologists and ecologists in computational techniques. We are proud to have recently conferred the first bioinformatics Ph.D. at Scripps Institution of Oceanography. We also provide support to doctoral students in other programs.

Starting in the fall of 2006 we will be offering an introductory bioinformatics course that will introduce students to genomics software and databases. The course will also emphasize the importance and limitations of the tools and datasets and the statistical interpretation of the data.
